Things I find way overdone;

1. Mutants. My gosh, can't you think of an original origin for yourself anymore? "I'm just born that way" an origin does not make!

2. the 1800's. Yes, Civil War, weird romantic ideals, age of invention, guns and machine guns, lace and war, war, war. Ooo. Ahhh. Stop romanticizing it. It was harsh and uncomfortable and quite a bad place to live.

3. The Game Is Real. I mean, really? You can't come up with a new plot for once? One that perhaps doesn't involve the characters coming to this reality or us going to their reality... can't we keep the universes... you know... different? Yu-Gi-Oh should have only happened once...

4. First Person Shooters. Really... Really, there is more to the universe then getting a gun and shooting everything in sight. They were cool and quaint in 1992.... It's time to stop making them every freaking game released and start making new types of games now. Please?

.. eh... there probably is more... but those are the only things that really tick my mind right now.

Totally agree with you on the FPS thing.

re: 2. This is something that really gets me and it actually makes your choice of icon sort of ironic.

Okay, so let's see. I want a game or story setting with sprawling cities that have a nasty criminal population. I want bigassed sailing vessels. I want technology which is all finely-polished wood and carefully bolted copper plating. And I want swords of course. What era might I want as a model...

a ha! The 1870s-1890s!

Wha huh? I really think there's a lot of potential in the 1700s. I don't want Sweeney Todd and Jules Verne, I want Amadeus and Benjamin Franklin. Screw lace and top-hats and revolvers, I want peruques and tricorns and flintlocks.

Kinda how I've always wanted a game set in the 1600's during the initial colonization period, with Native Tribes just learning what a menace the Europeans are, and the Europeans all fighting each other, and you have your pirates, and established towns, and all sorts of interesting things going on, and that is just in the West. Let's not even start talking about all the crazy things happening everywhere else.

I tell you, while I like some of the stuff in the 1800's... the 1600's is where all the excitement is, really.

Why can't you see your feet in an FPS?

If you can't see your feet, I ain't playing it. (Okay, you can't see your feet in WoW, but I never use first-person view.)

It was like last year - Portal! Bioshock! Look! So innovative! ...Umm, not really. Okay, so it turns out they had great stories. But they were both basically the same game. Yes, by having totally different stories that's great. But by having the same exact game, they don't have widely different audiences. Four of the top five games last year might've been Xbox360 - but they were all sold to the same people. 2 games * 1 person ≠ 2 games * 2 persons

My gut instinct with the feet thing is that they don't want to slow down by rendering the figure that your camera is suppose to be inside. It's a silly thing, but that's the only reason I can think that... that, and they don't want people to shot themselves... cause you know someone will do that, and get all upset.
