Graphic Card Fan Issue
Hi All!

I seem to have this horrible luck with graphic cards.

When I first bought it, my graphic card was nice and quiet.

Then, about three months ago, it would make this horrid fan noise... but the second the fan warmed up, it would stop making it, so I didn't think anything of it.

Now, it won't shut up.

Did a dusting, but that doesn't seem to fix anything.

Any tips on getting a fan to go quiet again without, you know, disconnecting it, would be appreciated.

Fry's. They sell cooling system replacements for nearly all major video cards... heatpipes to ducted cowls. If the fan on the video card is making noise, it's likely already toasted the motor... why you dust early and often, rather than just when it starts making noise.

Fans do that. My TiVo has been whining like a banshee for months, and my mac mini is not far behind.

Fans take in dirt and get less efficient. Replace them when you can, lubricate when possible. For computers, replace with quieter fans when possible.

Not that I ever manage to do so much for my machines...

cheap low-end OEM fans. I put aftermarket coolers on all my video cards. (Currently I'm in with Arctic Cooling's silent solutions)

That reminds me that I need to look into a case noise I have when my system starts - it's intermittent and doesn't seem to cause a lot of problems, but better to be safe then sorry.

Follow the advice of others in the thread - hit up Frys, replace the fans. Trust me, I had an ATI card burn out because of a shitty fan.
