4E; Multiclassing revealed
You can go check it out at wizards if you really wanna know, but I gotta say something... and it's better to say it here, then, say, in any forum.

A lot of people are complaining that they are giving up a feat and trading out a power for nothing. That's not exactly true. Consider, for a moment, the rogue spending a feat for the Wizard training feat, then spending another feat at 4th level to grab an encounter power, in this case, Web. OMG, Sneak Attack! When the enemy breaks through, the wizard then uses it's Web. OMG, sneak attack!

I hardly think that using the feat to get access to powers that you don't have, even at the cost of one of your own powers, is necessarily weak. What it is, however, is min-maxxie. You have to plan out your power combinations before hand, and be careful how you spend your feats.

As it is rumored you get more feats at the same level as a similar leveled 3E character, I'm not sure if this is a bad trade of. A lot of people think it is, but I can see how it can balance out. The Paladin/Warlock combo seems almost too good, even for sacrificing feats... and in that case, I'd only need to sacrifice one.

I think that it's something that people are going to have to have the books in their hands before they completely judge. It's also one of those things that I suspect it wasn't play tested enough, and they tried to discourage it a little. I think in the end, they're going to fail on that level.

Oh, great! Just what we need, more terrible combinations.

I dunno. Multiclassing in 3.0 has problems. Like being able to class into abilities that cannot affect the game at your character level.

Did they solve that? Will the Rogue's Web be able to effect stuff he's supposed to interact with?

Well, current favored combo is warlock/rogue using eyebite to blind opponent... but considering that's a level one ability, I suppose the answer would be yes?

I don't know. I just know that it's going to be one of those things that is going to cause yet another rift between the people who know the rules and don't know the rules at my table. It won't be quite as bad as second or third edition, but it could end up that way.

Overall, I see this as cool, but at the same time, I know I'm not power gamie enough to abuse it like it will end up being abused.
