I don't know what to think
You know... Back in 1996, during my second election, there was a Proposal that California defined marriage as between a man and a woman. I voted against it, and it still passed, and ...

I know I have a lot of friends really excited about this new ruling... but part of me wonders exactly how long it will last, and if it won't end up just a token effort.

Not that I'm not happy for the people now able to get married, really... but I also think about one of my best friends, who is admittedly gay, and how he voted for the above proposition when it first came around... and it just leaves me with this dark hole feeling.

It'll be here sometime soon...
... I feel evil... but it's a matter of economics.

I ordered my 4E Gift Set from Barns and Noble.

4 weeks from now, give or take, I should have the new books.

Back to scenario writing.

Heh...
When one is trying to be clever (especially with a popular icon, such as, say, Portal), if someone comes by and actually answers the question to which you are trying to be clever with, don't get all bent out of shape about it. Just admit you didn't think it through, and move on.

Of course, the problem with me is if one is trying to make a joke, and it has a very logical common sense answer, I'm going to pop that bubble faster then you can think... so maybe it's just I don't find some things funny.

... like fart jokes. I still don't understand those.

Bleck!
Yep, the weather has decided to be insane this year...

We've gone from nice and pleasent 70's... to high 90's with 70% humidity. It's like Georgia decided to go on vacation... next door.

By Monday, it's suppose to be normal again... but it feel so like summer... early...

I can't imagine what it must be.... It's 87 degrees in Santa Ana... Bastards!

Aww....
I didn't plan on sleeping 3 hours... now I got even less time to not know what to do with then I did before. :P

Not that I think I'll be doing anything constructive, but it's less time!

Blood Elf Humor?
Oh give me a Gnome,
That hasn't got a Home,
Where the Tarren and Orrcan Spar.
The Alliance won't help,
And they give quite a yelp
At the Troll all you can eat and go bar.

(A sincere appology to Sheila, but it's a bloody elf!)

There are days where I wonder if anyone is on the same mental frequency I am, and even understand what I am talking about.

Today is one of those days.

The Drunk Tank
Near the center of town, there is a 3 foot wall with about another four foot of bars. Along the side of the wall is the label "Drunk" written in several languages. It is filled with about 4 inches of water, and has several stone slabs above the water line.

When people are caught in a drunken brawl, they are apprehended and tossed into the slippery tank. Here they are allowed to continue fighting, throw up, and act like goobs. The village kids typically shower and toss rotten produce in to stink the holding cell up, calling it "Beer Soup".

After the night, at about 10, the sheriff comes out, drains the tank, and then splits the detainees into two groups. One group cleans out the tank, and the others take buckets to fill the tank back up. This typically takes about an hour.

Those that refuse the community service get fined. Those that kill with purpose while in the tanke are dealt with by the sheriff personally.

D&D Thoughts
Pandemonium. It's a scary place in the D&D universe. It's place where the wind howls with all sorts of sounds, because the physics of the place don't let sounds die. They just keep going on forever and ever. Sometimes this forms tremendous winds that whip around the planes. The first layer is the most hospitable, given one shelter against the winds, but as one descends into the layers of the plane, there is less and less shelter, till all you have is a flat windy plane, that has holes that you can hide in.

With all sorts of secrets kept in the winds, it is very probably at the very bottom you have a race of very powerful wizards that are very keen and adept at picking out a slim whisper of a conversation or utterance that is centuries old, out of the huge sound that surrounds them.

It's also possible that the most common inhabitants of the world are deaf. They can't hear the maddening winds that surround them. They use telepathy to communicate to each other, if they are intelligent enough to have speech, and they would be keenly alert in other alien ways.

Even so, it is amazing to me that basically no one has ever tried to populate the plane. Outside of a reference to a city that people take shelter in, like some forsaken Casablanca, there is no real reference to what lives there.

I suppose I'm going to have to make up that something.

My First Dice System
It was weird. It was unusual... and I don't remember most of it... but here is what i DO remember.

Basically you would roll a die, and try to hit a target number. If you failed to hit the target number, you could reroll and try again, only if you had a trait that would tie into the die role. You could do this up to two times. If you missed on the third try, you were 'out' of luck.

I think it would have worked. My problem was I had a problem balancing the system between the different types of roles I wanted to see. I don't think I'll ever get back to that game.. but it was an interesting idea at the time.

Things I find way overdone;

1. Mutants. My gosh, can't you think of an original origin for yourself anymore? "I'm just born that way" an origin does not make!

2. the 1800's. Yes, Civil War, weird romantic ideals, age of invention, guns and machine guns, lace and war, war, war. Ooo. Ahhh. Stop romanticizing it. It was harsh and uncomfortable and quite a bad place to live.

3. The Game Is Real. I mean, really? You can't come up with a new plot for once? One that perhaps doesn't involve the characters coming to this reality or us going to their reality... can't we keep the universes... you know... different? Yu-Gi-Oh should have only happened once...

4. First Person Shooters. Really... Really, there is more to the universe then getting a gun and shooting everything in sight. They were cool and quaint in 1992.... It's time to stop making them every freaking game released and start making new types of games now. Please?

.. eh... there probably is more... but those are the only things that really tick my mind right now.

Graphic Card Fan Issue
Hi All!

I seem to have this horrible luck with graphic cards.

When I first bought it, my graphic card was nice and quiet.

Then, about three months ago, it would make this horrid fan noise... but the second the fan warmed up, it would stop making it, so I didn't think anything of it.

Now, it won't shut up.

Did a dusting, but that doesn't seem to fix anything.

Any tips on getting a fan to go quiet again without, you know, disconnecting it, would be appreciated.

SkullCrusher Mountain Thought
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don't like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

... Exactly what half of a monkey do you combine with half of a pony?

4E; Multiclassing revealed
You can go check it out at wizards if you really wanna know, but I gotta say something... and it's better to say it here, then, say, in any forum.

A lot of people are complaining that they are giving up a feat and trading out a power for nothing. That's not exactly true. Consider, for a moment, the rogue spending a feat for the Wizard training feat, then spending another feat at 4th level to grab an encounter power, in this case, Web. OMG, Sneak Attack! When the enemy breaks through, the wizard then uses it's Web. OMG, sneak attack!

I hardly think that using the feat to get access to powers that you don't have, even at the cost of one of your own powers, is necessarily weak. What it is, however, is min-maxxie. You have to plan out your power combinations before hand, and be careful how you spend your feats.

As it is rumored you get more feats at the same level as a similar leveled 3E character, I'm not sure if this is a bad trade of. A lot of people think it is, but I can see how it can balance out. The Paladin/Warlock combo seems almost too good, even for sacrificing feats... and in that case, I'd only need to sacrifice one.

I think that it's something that people are going to have to have the books in their hands before they completely judge. It's also one of those things that I suspect it wasn't play tested enough, and they tried to discourage it a little. I think in the end, they're going to fail on that level.

Chili Logic...
... I might as well eat the chili. Someone's got to finish it.

... Hey, maybe I'll take this chunk, and leave the rest for the last person.

... There isn't a lot of beans left... maybe I'll just finish it off...

... Uh-oh. I need a bigger bowl...

I realize that somewhere out there, an engineer just solved a problem JUST LIKE THIS, only using Fluid Dynamics and a little golf cart engine...

ARG!
... No wonder I feel cold... it's 57F outside... and here I was thinking that with 80+ Degree weather this weekend SUMMER had arrived.

No wonder my body is in rebellion about maybe having some kind of thing about it. The world doesn't even know what is right at the moment.

Non-Sequetir
The comment I would have loved to have made.

"I always had imagined (Dragon/Gelatinous Cube Sex) being like tentacle hentai... but at the end, instead of the dragon laying a egg, they lay a blob."

... but somehow I knew that it wouldn't sound as funny as I meant it to be.

An actual Wizards and Warriors Episode!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LXohorE988

It's hard to convey how cool this was when I was growing up, living in a house with D&D manuals and being allowed to stay up late watching it.

I realize that it's corny... but part of my roots in fantasy will always be in this show.

Flea Market goodies
Picked up two (!) copies of Torg, with Possibility decks (!!!). I only found one sourcebook (Nippontech)... but that might be enough to go and run a game!

Picked up Paranoia XP. So now I have a legit copy. I get this feeling it would be really cool to run with the kids in Zap mode.

Picked up a old Car Wars Compendium. Maybe it can help little bro get interested in math.

Picked up Changling the Dreaming! Yes, the one of two old WOD books that I desperately wanted to replace. Joy!

Overall, I think I got some outrageously good bargains (Seriously, one of the Torg sets was a buck! How can you go wrong with a RPG for a buck?) yesterday. My RPG collection feels a bit more complete now, some of the holes from a few years ago are filling back up, and I now have lots of options about what kind of games to play.

It doesn't make me feel 100 percent better, and there are other things I wanted to get for me besides that actually doesn't involve gaming, but it was nice to hang out at the game store for a little bit, regardless.

Next Chili
You know... I think my mom and dad were wrong.

I mean, yeah, I know. Steam your beef is beer for two hours is typically what most american do to make chili, but I just think that after all this time, they got it wrong. I just hate beer.

... although you can hardly call the tea that is called Bud beer, anyway.

You know, I will be glad that in about three more years, Naruto will be mostly dead, and when I look up Ninja, I will not be getting images of things that couldn't stealth their way out of a pumpkin patch.

Naturo is as much about ninjas as Samurai Pizza Cats are about Samurai or pizza delivery... or about ninjas, for that matter.
