Art Progress Midweek
a) Well, I have like three of 6 or 8 pages done for the little Ask Oni Why! Project, and it's coming along. Part of me just has to let go of perfection and just get things done. I should have some of them posted soon, and we'll see if people like it or not.

b) Lost time in Borderlands 2. I'm not sure if I really like the game, or if I just like the way the game renders. I'm curious to see where the story goes. Probably a "Play once, and then forget" kind of thing.

c) My art auctions on Ebay are, once again, going nowhere. There is a statistic that like 80% of auctions don't actually get a bid, and there is a question of not aiming at a specific target and that I have yet to develop a good sales pitch.

d) I'm thinking of taking commissions, and am trying to figure out if there is a need of my art on a product somewhere. I just really need feedback from a community somewhere.

It's very much a shaman kinda thing. You can't be a shaman without a community to serve. You can be an artist without a community to serve, but it's not very fulfilling if you do.

The Anti-Furry blog
http://antifurryblog.blogspot.com/‎

A poor extremist campaign to... spread hate? I don't know. He just doesn't like it, and he wants to be mean, because it makes him empowered. Oooo....

Dang it, Internet. I'm just looking for art blogs. Give me a art blog that is worth paying attention to.

The Hobbit II Trailer.
My only disappointment about the Hobbit Trailer? Smaug is supposed to be covered in gold. That is what protects him from all the weapons of man, and it takes one really good shot from a freaking enchanted arrow by an incredible archer in the only weak spot on the dragon to take him down.

I realize that Red has been a tradition since Rankin/Bass edition, but they were wrong. I know it's what people expect, but I was hoping that the detail would have been realized.

As far as expanded Story stuff, it's fine. It'll be fun. I don't feel the movie would disappoint, but I really wanted the color to be right. It's still a great looking dragon, though.

Ask Me Why!?!
I'm thinking of doing something silly.

Ask a deer girl why! Why what? Why, anything at all! Has to be in the form of a Why Question though.

Things like Why do Bees Sting, or Why do cows moo! Or whatever else.

And no Why? Why question! Why by itself isn't a question, it's an exclamation, and that just won't do!

I'm going to doodle a few comics based on questions. I think. That's the plan, anyway.

So please, ask away!

Dream Fragment : The Dinner of Fu Leng
The dream has been moving though a couple of segments, but my 'character' ends up at this dinner held by a faction inside an organization that was experimenting on Hellboy, and they had invited all the key people to come to dinner to discuss the Project... and they were serving this blue food and blue wine, and it was very pretty, but me and the person next to me were not tempted to touch it, although several people at the very long trapezoidal table had at least sipped the wine out of thirst and politeness.

At some point the Head Villian was monologuing, and the mooks were coming up behind other people, and I looked to the old jolly man next to me, and asked him to declare me Yojimbo. Then warning everyone I had void strike, time slowed down and I prepared to make my move...

Which is precisely when I woke up, of course... but I would like to think it ended in a chase scene as I tried to get people out of there, of course. For my dreams *love* chase scenes.

Oh dear... this is not a good feeling...
... I just looked breifly at Fiverr... my bottom lip is in pain, and I am really, really wanting to cry now. OMG, it is depressing how much art people are just giving away for nothing...

No, I think I really am in pain. I don't think I can look at micro-payment sites anymore. OMG...

I don't know...
Why is it when you love someone, or you miss someone, or you lose someone, you feel the hallowness or fullness in your chest (our heart)? I mean, if you discount the soul, which I do not, is there a reason that the pain or joy would be there?

[Local] Looking for an RPG
Anyone know of a group that has a spot open? I'll run if I need to, but I'd like something to do on the weekend. General Bay Area, please.

Not that I expect anything, but I thought I might ask here before advertising to other places of the world.

More Comic Dialogue Thoughts
Oni : You see, Darleena isn't really mad at me. She just hates that she didn't have two mothers. I keep trying to...

Darleena : Who are you talking to? I'm right here.

Oni: (Points to outside the box) The viewer.

Darleena: What viewer?

Oni: The people right there.

Darleena : But... that's a wall.

Oni: Yes. The Fourth Wall!

Darleena : (Turning around) I don't understand you mother...

Dream Fragment - The Security Guard of Christmas
So, in the Magical Mall/Plaza that is the room of the Magic of Christmas (As defined by me, so it's peppermints, and toymakers, and and lots and lot of pretty lights... and apparently large pools of Tropical Fish and Whales) there live the Hard Nosed Security Guard. He chews and sucks on *one* piece of candy a year, a peppermint taffy, and he does not change the candy until the job is done for the year.

Well, today, he got to change his candy.

I have no idea if this *means* anything, but there you are.

On the bright side, the Christmas Chinchilla's were harvesting the Oranges and gorging themselves from little Palm Trees, so make of that as you will.

Brief note
Pastels work best on a blank canvas. Using them to cover up a previous painting does not work nearly as well as I hoped. Partly to blame here is fixitive.

Also, if I am to use a broad underpainting for the Pastels, use light tone quality. The Mass Grey is okay, but it doesn't work nearly as well as I'd like.

Overall, Pastel on cloth works, but it sure uses up the Pastels quickly.

Pointless Hobby Note of the Sleep Deprived
At Midnight, I ran off to the MTG Prerelease, opened up a Rare I could not use (Havock Festival), a Rare I wanted to use but in the Wrong Color (Aetherling! Cool!), A rare that I played, but I shouldn't have (Krag-Tua Ancient?), and a handful or rares that only one of which counted, which wasn't any of the new cards. :(

Now, I'm not horribly complaining. I think that given everything, the midrange deckie thing I put together was working just fine. It had ways of dealing Stupid amounts of damage and if I could get a little ahead, I could just win out of nowhere. Double Strike is so awesome on 6 power creatures...

But I was fighting off things like Smelt-Ward Gatekeepers, which would steal my creatures and make blocking unfavorable. I was up against Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts, which is too big for the weak removal I had. I was up against Trostani and Call of the Wyrm(?), which I just couldn't plow through. I just couldn't win through bombs.

So I put in a moderate 2-3 performance last night. Armed//Dangerous was for sure my favorite card of the set, and maybe it's even Standard Playable....

... and with 3 hours sleep, I am off to do this again. *whee!*

Love you all.

[Art] Moth and Flame

I'm still struggling to come up with art that might make good clip art. There's a trick to it, I think, and I've not quite gotten it down yet. Still, here is something. It's pretty. I pushed it past where I was comfortable, which was at the Candlestick...

I don't believe this thing took me three days to finish. It's mainly like 1 day of making a background... then a day of making a candle... and then just everything else. I should stop getting distracted by things so easily.

Well... that was a surprise.
Much to my surprise, I have discovered that Lent is a Christian (Or maybe just Catholic) holiday and observation of fasting... which is funny, because I've never seen anyone do it.

I suppose it doesn't really matter, but I would have thought I would have known about it by now.

Story Idea that I'm working on
Aavar wants to join the Pasha's Orchestra, but the elderly peer says that he could not possibly pass the audition. Aavar then goes to see the Ogress Witch that lives in the caves outside of town, and asks for a potion that would make him the best flutist around.

The Witch refuses to help for free. She demands payment. 2 Silver. that's 24 copper, or 1440 pieces of tin. The boy, of course, does not have nearly that many copper or even tin, but he is determined to earn it. He has one month to earn the magic potion.

The first week is miserable, as he tries to walk pets and do normal type chores. The Second Week is almost as bad, as he tries to earn it at taverns using his fluting skills. The third week works better as he teaches another child. The Last Week he has a windfall, and word is traveling around that he is actually good, but he doesn't feel it's enough. He needs to be the best.

In the end, he gives the silver to the Witch, and he goes to the audition, and he drinks his potion just before he is pushed onto stage. The potion is just water though, and he feels betrayed, and he almost back out, but the Pasha commands that he at least play for him.

At this point, the boy is accepted, he goes back to the witch and is upset, but the witch gives the child back his money, and blah blah happy ending blah blah.

So, now I gotta figure out if the Witch actually does anything besides serves as a McGuffin, and I think I can move forward with the doodles and drawings. I like the idea of the Witch helping out from the shadows, because she's not a bad person, and she believes that people who are desperate enough to come to her for help should be helped according to their need.

Knowing the audiance
I would ask what I should draw this morning... but the answer I would get back would either be Hyena, Pangolin, or Fisher... because that's the answer I always get.

Ga... Pangolin's are so scaly... It's like drawing Koi Kites.

St Patrick's Day
For most people, St. Patrick's day is sort of like Fat Tuesday. It's a day that you go out and get drunk and party with friends and wear stupid green hats.

Well, we kinda keep the green thing going to, because if you don't do that, you'd be a North Irelander, and that would be a horrible thing... in the same way being a East German would have been... which means, really, fuck the whole thing, and can somehow, someway, get over the whole thing, and just convince Britain just to give *Back* North Ireland now?

...

Sorry...

In anycase, while this is usually a small holiday for most families, my family tends to take St Patties day a lot more seriously. It's like Thanksgiving with Corned Beef. It's a time to have neighbors visit and to call all the relatives and wish that they are well, that sort of thing. You gather around and watch John Wayne pretend to be an Irishmen in either The Quiet Man (the preferred film) or Donavan's Reef (because you can't watch the Quiet Man all the time). Maybe you have a drink. You play the Clancy Boys, in preference to Clann'ad or The Golden Mean, or whatever, because Tradition!

So, mainly it was a good time.

...

I have a problem with most Soft Liquors, and that is they use Hops as an agent for the brewing, and I'm allergic to Hops. It makes me throw up really easily. I can't handle it. So I've avoided most beers and Ales and Stouts for most of my life. Then I have discovered Hard Cider.

Hard Cider is a pleasant surprise. It doesn't have the hops, so I don't have the allergy problem. It is fermented, so it still makes me silly rather quickly. It's got that apple taste to it when you drink the first few sips, so that is pleasant. Overall, I was pretty impressed.

...

So, that concludes St. Patties Day.
